What a way to start the 2019 wedding season! Joe and Megan had just the most fantastic wedding. The entire event took place at Carnivale in Chicago and had a vintage circus/carnival theme. This was my first wedding at Carnivale and I really hope to return again. So colorful! And both the inside and outside were amazing for photos. So in the event of rain, no worries. We, however, had an amazing spring day. You have to check it out. Makeup but Chanelle Makeup Artistry. Dress by Lace and Liberty in LA. Flowers by Cattails.
Another amazing wedding last year! MJ and Evan had to most perfect day. I shot this girl’s senior photos way back when… and now her wedding?!?! Time sure flies. So awesome to be able to spend this special day with her. Gorgeous bride!!
Such an amazing wedding on Saturday! As I go through the photos, no joke, Becca and Andrew are laughing together in 99% of them. The love and happiness between them is so amazing to witness. As if that wasn't enough, their wedding was so gorgeous! From the suite at the Conrad Hotel to the roof top ceremony on the yacht at Navy Pier with the sun setting behind the skyline. 😍😍😍 Couldn't have been any more perfect. Congratulations!!!
We were dodging rain all through this session but we were able to have a great time and even get access to Tavern when it was closed. Too fun! Meet Autumn and Chris. Autumn has been coloring my hair for probably 10 years now. All those funky colors and designs come from this girl. Def check her out HERE. Can't wait for their wedding this fall!
Amanda and Andrew's wedding was like a family wedding for me. I had 3 previous brides in attendance, which was so fun! For wedding party photos, we wondered around the Lincoln Park area. What a busy location for wedding parties! Wowsa! We finished up with some photos outside of the Knickerbocker Hotel where the reception was and I have to tell you, with the light we were getting, it was my favorite spot. The city lights were glowing and the sun was setting. So we stopped traffic and got some great shots.
So I contact Liz and Arash a couple weeks before the wedding to go over the timeline and make sure we are on the same page. Liz tells me of a plan she has to set off pink smoke bombs.. in downtown Chicago... ?!?!?! I'm game for anything of course. I just told her to have the least important person there light them in case they get arrested. LOL! Well... our plan went off without a hitch! Check it out!!
Ashley and Mitch were married on Saturday over the holiday weekend. There were storms in the forecast, and with the wedding being in Joliet, I thought for sure we'd get hit. Seems like Joliet gets hit pretty hard with storms usually. But we didn't! Not a drop of rain! So thankful because the photos and reception were held at the Patrick C. Haley Mansion. LOVE that place. So beautiful and so perfect for Ashley's wedding. Have a look!
See a familiar face?? I met up with Shannon and her sister Meg of Whole Food Love last week and over the weekend photographed Shannon's wedding. LOVE! Such a gorgeous day! Perfect weather. Perfect wedding. This is just a small taste.. Stay tuned for more as I edit this whole wedding!
My second to last wedding of 2015 was with Sara and Chris, and what a great day it was! Sara found me through the horse world grapevine so I actually ended up knowing a bunch of people at the wedding. Super fun! The entire event took place at the Hilton in Northbrook - getting ready, ceremony, photos and reception. Sooooo beautiful!! The ceremony setup was gorgeous. I usually dont post much when it comes to the ceremony, but I did for this one. So easy for everyone with the entire event in one location. I believe the look of Sara's wedding was created by Atmosphere Events Group which included the flowers. Enjoy a look into this beautiful day with super fun people!
Kaylan and I have been in the equestrian world together for as long as I've been riding, so when she contacted me to photograph her wedding, I was thrilled! We began with getting ready shots at the Palmer House Hotel. They had a large suite that was perfect for the ladies prep. The ceremony was at Assumption Church. Gotta love those old ornate churches downtown. During the ceremony, a nasty storm rolled in. The stained glass windows darken and the lightning began. We were all a little worried for our photos afterwards. But it passed quickly and the sun came out. The storm actually left some really amazing clouds in the sky for our shots at Buckingham Fountain. We made a few stops around the city, and made our way to the Harold Washington Library for the reception. Such a cool venue. It's like being outside... but you're not! Ashley and I had a great time documenting your big day Kaylan and Rob! Thank you for having us! Event Planning by Wrap it Up.
So hard to even find where to start. This was such an incredible wedding. The setting was Margaret's parent's home. The girls were prepped by the amazing Nika Vaughn Bridal Artists and Xotchilt M. Alcantar for hair. There were gorgeous flowers everywhere by the one of my favorites Fleur, Inc. Once Margaret was dressed and ready to go, we managed to find a private little spot out by the wood shed, away from the hustle and bustle of everyone working so hard to set up. The ceremony was in the back yard, which provided the most beautiful light as the wedding party walked up the aisle. A stone pathway lined with rose petals leading to a water fountain was where they said I Do. Did I mention that Margaret walked down the aisle to the orchestra playing the Darth Vader theme? What?!?! Following hand written caulk signs leading to cocktails on the back patio where they had big wooden barrels serving as high top tables. While everyone was getting a drink, playing lawn games and having a snack, a white horse and carriage was waiting to take Ben and Margaret on a little ride for a moment alone. Dinner and dancing finished up our night inside a beautiful white tent by Sperry Tents. It was like a giant circus tent but all white, with peaks and flags flying. Inside, the tables were not just any tables. Beautiful vintage looking wood tables, with a different piece of china and pastel crystal glasses at every setting. There is so much to describe that I'll stop there and just let you look through the photos. A beautiful wedding. A beautiful family. Thank you so much for having me. It was truly a pleasure. xoxo
To be continued...
Last month, we took a peek at Katie and Fede's Chicago wedding. It was smaller, intimate and classy. This month, they continue their celebration in Texas where Fede's family lives. It was a bit larger of a party but still very intimate and so beautiful! The party took place at the Cavasos' Ranch... and don't let the word ranch fool you. This is a family full of architects, and the home that Mr. Cavasos built on their 1100 acres was amazing. The perfect venue for the party. They worked so hard to have everything ready and perfect for the big day - even with the buckets of rain they were getting. I believe I heard Katie say she felt like she was in a movie as she greeted her friends. We were able to sneak off for some photos of the two just before guests arrived at sunset. It was so perfect.
I am so excited to share with you my time in Texas! Here is a little teaser until then...
My second wedding of 2015 was part one of Katie and Fede's celebration of marriage. Their wedding took place in Chicago on what was quite a nice day for April. The sun was shining and the temps were tolerable. We started the day off getting ready at Katie's parent's home. We were able to quickly stop at Lincoln Park on the way to the ceremony for a few shots of both the ladies and the men without Katie and Fede seeing each other. From there, we headed to the ceremony at St. Clement Church - a lovely church with beautiful lighting. Our little ring bearer kept us all entertained throughout as he made his way around the pews, took a nap on the steps, and even gave some high-fives during the blessing. He was cracking everyone up!... or at least me. =) The ceremony was an evening affair so we were not able to take photos outside. However we did take advantage of the church interior for a few. The reception was at Sepia Private Dining. The perfect space for Katie's color pallet. We had a lovely dinner for close friends and family and a sweets table to finish. Next month, we head to Laredo, TX for part two of this celebration. Fede's family is from down there and we are going to have another celebration on the family's ranch. I can't wait! Enjoy your preview Katie and Fede. I can't wait for May!

A teaser of Katie and Federico from Saturday! Beautiful evening Chicago wedding. More later this week!
What an amazing way to kick off 2015. This was seriously such a hard wedding to blog because there were so many great moments captured that in order to tell the whole story... well... it was impossible. I would have posted the entire wedding! This post still has a bazillion photos in it. I just couldn't help myself. Rio and I enjoyed working with Maggie and Kevin so much. And it was so great to see the Lenz family once again. We started off getting ready at the Hancock building on the 91st floor. Check out the view out their window! Gorgeous Lake Michigan. We had a quick first look before heading off to the ceremony. After the "I Do's" we had a plan of 4 stops around the city for photos. I thought, no way would we make it to all of them. With city traffic, it would be impossible. But we did it with time to spare!! The cold may have helped us speed things up a little. I'm so happy we got them all in. Every spot was amazing. Our last set of photos took place at the reception site, The Rookery. The most amazing staircase I've ever seen. The most beautiful photos of Maggie and Kevin on those stairs. Thank you so much Maggie and Kevin for sharing your special day with us. Have a great honeymoon!! xoxo!!
Where do I begin?? Mikie, you made such a beautiful bride. Every move you made created a beautiful image. Dan wasn't too shabby himself. =) It was such a pleasure photographing your wedding day. It was full of amazing people (some familiar!) and lots of love. We started our day at the Waldorf Astoria for the ladies and the Thompson Chicago for the gentlemen. Gorgeous backdrops for our getting ready portion of the day. As you can see, I have posted quite a few shots while Mikie was getting ready. The ceremony was at Holy Name Cathedral, and the reception at Saddle and Cycle Club. One of my favorite Chicago venues. The rain held out once again for me and we had a beautiful evening. AND! I had to post some dancing shots as Mikie's family threw one of the most amazing "Dollar Dances" I've ever witnessed. There were shots, and cupcakes, and napkins flying everywhere! It was amazing! Thank you so much again for having me. Wishing you a lifetime of love and happiness.
This summer has been amazing. Every weekend, the weather seems to be perfect. I got to see many familiar faces last saturday at Ashley and Steve's wedding, which is always so fun! For our wedding party photos, we headed over to Olive Park in Chicago which was surprisingly not super busy. We only saw 3 other weddings. haha. We got some gorgeous shots and then headed over to Ravenswood Events Center. That was my first time there and loved it! We got some more shots in the alley out back. Gotta love an old brick alley! And the exposed brick inside of the venue was amazing! Such a cool space. Ashley and Steve sure know how to have fun with one another and their friends are amazing as well. Thank you so much for having me capture such an important and exciting day. Enjoy your sneak peek!
I have the best weddings. =) Another gorgeous wedding at the Saddle and Cycle Club in Chicago this past Saturday. I met Sam last year just days before he was moving to Chile to be with Daniela. They had both just graduated from college in NY - both fine art majors with Dani being a painter, and Sam sculpting. I had never even met Dani before the big day! She certainly didn't let me down. Such a beautiful girl with such perfect skin! The kindest, most easy going group. It was a pleasure. I wish you all my best in your new life together in Chile, and thank you for having me document such a wonderful day in your lives.
Well, I woke up to a downpour Saturday morning. Not what a photographer wants to see on a wedding day. So I did a little rain dance on facebook. Ta-dah!! By the time Rio and I arrived down in Chicago, it had stopped. And didn't rain again until we were all cozy inside at the reception. Kate and Aron had such a beautiful wedding. The ladies had champaign colored dresses with coral flowers and the men wore navy. They said their I Dos at St. Vincent DePaul and had a gorgeous reception at the Saddle and Cycle Club. Once of my favorite Chicago venues. And never had I seen a crowd rush the dance floor as soon as it opened. Amazing!
